She has taught at the university level as well as provided community education. She has preached at Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ congregations in Colorado and Nebraska. She led spiritual retreats in the 1990s through the Covenant of Gethsemane, a spirituality leadership group through the Disciples of Christ denomination.
Anders started presenting her scholarship at professional conferences in 1998. She primarily covers 19th-century U.S. reform movements through the eyes of activist/author L. Maria Child (1802-1880), Betabelero (Mexican-origin beet field workers) contribution to the sugar industry, and African-American farmer and entrepreneur Junius G. Groves (1859-1925).
